It has been a little over a week since my wife left for Islamabad. The kids and I have settled down a little and are starting to realize that mom’s not going to be walking through that door anytime soon. The biggest hit we’ve taken so far has been to the family supper which Debbie was a master of. I didn’t realize how nice the suppers were until I had to rely on me to make them. Debbie always made sure the meal was healthy and valuable to us. I’m not so good at that though I feel like I’m starting to catch on. Last night, I cooked the family’s favorite meal (cube steaks, rice & gravy, and corn). I was very proud of myself, especially since at our last meal, my daughter looked up at me about halfway through and said “hey dad, we got any vegetables?” Sweet kid, really.
Anyway, being the OCD, ADHD parent that I am, supper comes into my mind about 15 seconds before we’re supposed to be sitting down to eat. I really need to work on it so I guess that’s where I’ll be focusing my time over the next few weeks. Too bad Debbie didn’t get that once-a-month cooking thing done before she left but I’m sure we’ll survive just fine.
Gotta go, the doorbell just rang. Must be the pizza delivery person!!
