Let me get this straight…

This is really one of my favorite campaign ads for this political season. Let’s see, so his economic recovery plan has to do with taxing the people and companies that hire 95% of the private sector employees. Then he’s going to cut government spending while increasing government intervention in our lives. He’s going to force the medical industry to cut costs so that the government can afford to pay our medical costs because he’s going to nationalize medical coverage but he’s going to do this without stopping the litigation that is causing medical costs to skyrocket. Plus, the attorneys who are currently having to sue medical practices and/or insurance companies are now going to be able to sue the federal government. Yep, I’m loving the prospect of an Obama led nation…Obama-Nation…Obamination…
My favorite has to be his stance on life. When George Herbert Walker Bush ran for President, Dennis Miller who then hosted Saturday Night Live’s News segment made the statement that Bush was Anti-Abortion but Pro-Death Penalty; the punch-line was “I guess it’s all in the timing, huh George?” Now, we have a candidate who is Pro-Abortion and Anti-Death Penalty. So let me get this straight, an unborn infant who has done absolutely nothing wrong can be terminated at the convenience of the one who conceived it but a person who willingly and knowingly committed a crime so heinous that our laws would allow them to be put to death should not. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we have the right to take anyone’s life and believe that no one, no matter what the cause of their conception, crime they’ve committed, or age (euthanasia) should be put to death in any unnatural way. But hey, if I had to defend one position or the other, I certainly could find it easier to defend Capital Punishment than I could Abortion. Did you hear Katie Couric trying to rope in Sarah Palin with that lame question? “So, you believe that a woman who becomes pregnant because of rape or incest should be forced to carry the baby to term?” Hell yes; or do two wrongs now make a right in Katie’s precious little book? Let’s see, kill the unborn child and then the mother can just go on with her life and the trauma of the rape or incest will just go away like it never happened??? Please! Oh, and the abortion is not going to add any trauma to the poor victim’s life. I wish Sarah’s answer to Katie would have gone something like “Yes, and I believe that it shouldn’t be the law that the elementary school nurse has to call me to give my child an aspirin and yet is legally restricted from calling me before referring her to the abortion clinic.”
One more thing before I step off this soapbox, Whoopee Goldberg used to make millions of dollars selling videos in which she ridiculed men who had a pro-life view. She would walk up to the men and ask them “When was the last time you were pregnant?” Now on “The View”, she asks John McCain if she has to be worried about going back to slavery because of his view on strict interpretation of Constitutional Law. When was Whoopee ever a slave? About the only thing she is a slave to is that tired excuse for a hairstyle she’s been sporting for the last 35 years! Hypocrite! How do you get these jobs? Man I wish more people read my blog; I’m out of here…

Urban Mom says:
I honestly don’t know how most of the women on The View function in public unsupervised. I saw the Whoppi/McCain thing. She was worried about his potential choices of Supreme Court justices. Except that slavery was ended by Congress. So what the hell was her point? And then I remembered, “oh wait, I hate this show!”
I really like your blog. I think I found you through June Cleaver. Take care!

Becky says:
Until we take care of ALL the babies born, abortion must be legal. When the system for taking care of all Americans is perfect, then abortion can be illegal. Being for legal is being pro-life for women, anti-fatal peritonitis caused by self-inflicted abortion. It has nothing to do with being pro-death.
Becky says:
Having a place like this in every town would do far more to stop abortions than making it illegal, which offers no other options. They help guide women through the staggeringly difficult choices available and helps them make a good decision and gives them options after they choose life. A law saying “nope, can’t do that” won’t help these women.
Adoption is confusing, convoluted, demeaning for both parties, and expensive (30K for domestic is common) for adoptive parents. Spend your energy trying to make adoption EASY and AFFORDABLE for those who wish to adopt, and when this is achieved, and when it is socially acceptable and possible for women to single parent in our society, and when nobody feels the need to abort so strong that they will risk death to do it, then you can and should make it illegal because it is morally reprehensible. But, of course, then it wouldn’t be necessary to do so.
Becky says:
You can’t see it on my screen, but there is a link to a Christian-run pregnancy center in the “this” in the first line. They do an outstanding job.

Becky,
First I would like to respectfully disagree with your opinion. Taking a life, any life, at any point in time is wrong. If we wait for anything in this imperfect world to be perfect, we will have a long wait indeed. The way to fix the abortion issue is to keep unwanted conception from occurring. In my opinion, this means keeping sexual relations within the marriage covenant as it was originally designed.
I am sure you do not intend it this way but your argument is one step away from the same argument that proponents of euthanasia use. The system for taking care of the elderly infirmed is broken so why not eliminate the elderly infirmed instead of fix the system.
I am sure that self-inflicted abortions are traumatic for the woman just as I am certain that botched abortions are, just as I am sure that abortions that go perfectly are but I am a black and white kind of person. When I find gray areas, I try to search down to the roots to find where the actual decision point is and I work my way out from there. I also try to see others’ points of view if I can. On the abortion issue, the black/white decision point for me is life; not how the life came about. Once conceived, the child has rights and needs to be allowed a method of expression of those rights. Just like others who are unable to fight for their own rights, we must fight for these rights for them. Crisis pregnancy women have rights as well but the solution should not be to kill the unborn child but to work to eliminate the cause of the crisis pregnancy. To not implement a law that is right because of possible implications is not the correct answer.
Again, I am sure that you feel strongly about your position but I have 2 friends who will never has children because of botched abortions when they were in college and I feel strongly that they would have been better off if they had delivered the children and either raised them or offered them up for adoption. Instead, they went to a butcher who performed far more damage to their bodies and their psyche than the rape (in one case) and the unprotected sex (in the other) ever could have done.
Debbie says:
Becky, give me those unwanted babies. I will find a home for them. The homes are out there, trust me.
Dustmite says:
“Now on “The View”, she asks John McCain if she has to be worried about going back to slavery because of his view on strict interpretation of Constitutional Law.”
I don’t think I have ever seen anything in the constitution that made slavery legal. This just makes her sound like she has no clue what she is talking about but I guess no one will really realize the absurdity of her comment.

This blog is so right wing radical its scary. I guess I fought two freaking tours in iraq for your right to spread these lies. Shameful.
pland777 says:
Yes, you did and thank you for the compliment, and the two tours in Iraq. Now, if you would like to elaborate on just exactly where I lied, maybe we can have a reasonable, mature conversation. As for shameful, what would you consider more shameful; someone who is willing to put his views on the internet for discussion with many people of different views or someone who reads his blog, calls him a liar and doesn’t elaborate or offer valid, well-thought-out counterpoints like several others did?
June says:
So… are we having fun yet?
Loghomeupnorth says:
Great Post… hope you don’t mind I used your LIFE ribbon on my blog.
A lowly home schooling mom says:
Becky,
Questions I get all the times are:
“Are they all yours?” “Do you know what causes it?
Yes, they are mine and I know what causes it. You do too!
So if you don’t want to get pregnant, stay away from the cause. Very simple.
Abortions and pregnancies due to rape and incest are only a drop in the bucket. It is still wrong to kill innocent lives.
Do you join in the “feel sad” crowd on 9/11 every year? Are you mad at the terrorists for blowing up the towers and kill all those people?
On 9/11, 3000 people were killed. Every day we murder 4000 innocent unborn babies through abortions. We mourn yearly and politicians make a big show about it. But every day we kill 4000 (many more than this number if you add the abortion pills massacre) of our own and who mourn for them?
Talk about hypocrites! We are a nation of hypocrites.
God have mercy on us all!
Laura says:
Why don’t YOU run for president.
I’ll get started on the buttons.
pland777 says:
I actually think I’ll run for something local first and then maybe work my way up. I’d be starting awfully late but you never know. I think I wear my emotions on my sleeve too much though. I can only imagine my first real argument with a Senator. “No Senator, what I said was, ‘the proctologist called and they’ve found your head’” I’m sure the media would have a field day with that one! Thanks for the vote of confidence though, or was that sarcasm?
Brett says:
I’m a libertarian, and I believe government should keep their filthy hands off of people’s lives, except the womb of a woman… they’re A okay with me there.
