Is this really a religious issue?

Okay, so lately I’ve had a lot of friends talking about Obama and the abortion issue. As a Catholic, this issue is important to me and I know that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops have made it the number 1 priority for them. I know that many priests, such as this one in South Carolina are taking this issue into the parish and working it hard but it also seems like everyone I talk to seems to think this issue BELONGS to the religious. I just don’t get that!

Look, 35 years ago a law was implemented that made abortion illegal. Lots of people fought against the law but it passed anyway. Can any of us really remember what it was like in 1973? You remember, dads used to sit in the waiting room of the hospital smoking cigarettes and the doctor would come out and tell him whether it was a boy or a girl. We had nowhere near the medical science we have now. We literally have electron microscope video of cells splitting now. We can actually see the sperm fertilize the egg. We KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that a human life has started at that moment. Those are the facts and they are indisputable. This information was not concrete in the early 70′s. Oh, doctor’s knew this but they couldn’t show the jury pictures like they can today. Today, no one can say “we just don’t know when life begins”. Scientific proof shows that life begins at conception. An independent life form is living within the mother’s womb. And our laws, founded on inconclusive evidence, allow this independent life form to be murdered and for the murderer to be protected from prosecution. If you don’t believe it, watch the following video clip:

Of course, this is a priest telling the story so I am not really helping my cause of proving this is just as much a secular issue as it is a religious one, but look at the size of the fetus doll in his hands. Only 18 weeks after conception, just over 3 months!!! This is murder of the innocents and our new President-Elect is waiting to sign a bill that will allow this procedure, theoretically, to be performed on any and every baby from conception up to and including delivery! Please, please, please, pray and ACT to keep FOCA and any other pro-abortion bill from passing.

Let me get this straight…

Obama, change

Obama, change

This is really one of my favorite campaign ads for this political season. Let’s see, so his economic recovery plan has to do with taxing the people and companies that hire 95% of the private sector employees. Then he’s going to cut government spending while increasing government intervention in our lives. He’s going to force the medical industry to cut costs so that the government can afford to pay our medical costs because he’s going to nationalize medical coverage but he’s going to do this without stopping the litigation that is causing medical costs to skyrocket. Plus, the attorneys who are currently having to sue medical practices and/or insurance companies are now going to be able to sue the federal government. Yep, I’m loving the prospect of an Obama led nation…Obama-Nation…Obamination…

My favorite has to be his stance on life. When George Herbert Walker Bush ran for President, Dennis Miller who then hosted Saturday Night Live’s News segment made the statement that Bush was Anti-Abortion but Pro-Death Penalty; the punch-line was “I guess it’s all in the timing, huh George?” Now, we have a candidate who is Pro-Abortion and Anti-Death Penalty. So let me get this straight, an unborn infant who has done absolutely nothing wrong can be terminated at the convenience of the one who conceived it but a person who willingly and knowingly committed a crime so heinous that our laws would allow them to be put to death should not. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we have the right to take anyone’s life and believe that no one, no matter what the cause of their conception, crime they’ve committed, or age (euthanasia) should be put to death in any unnatural way. But hey, if I had to defend one position or the other, I certainly could find it easier to defend Capital Punishment than I could Abortion. Did you hear Katie Couric trying to rope in Sarah Palin with that lame question? “So, you believe that a woman who becomes pregnant because of rape or incest should be forced to carry the baby to term?” Hell yes; or do two wrongs now make a right in Katie’s precious little book? Let’s see, kill the unborn child and then the mother can just go on with her life and the trauma of the rape or incest will just go away like it never happened??? Please! Oh, and the abortion is not going to add any trauma to the poor victim’s life. I wish Sarah’s answer to Katie would have gone something like “Yes, and I believe that it shouldn’t be the law that the elementary school nurse has to call me to give my child an aspirin and yet is legally restricted from calling me before referring her to the abortion clinic.”

One more thing before I step off this soapbox, Whoopee Goldberg used to make millions of dollars selling videos in which she ridiculed men who had a pro-life view. She would walk up to the men and ask them “When was the last time you were pregnant?” Now on “The View”, she asks John McCain if she has to be worried about going back to slavery because of his view on strict interpretation of Constitutional Law. When was Whoopee ever a slave? About the only thing she is a slave to is that tired excuse for a hairstyle she’s been sporting for the last 35 years! Hypocrite! How do you get these jobs? Man I wish more people read my blog; I’m out of here…

Palin rocks; and plays hard ball…

Palin-Biden VP Debate
Wow, say what you want; spin it if you like to but there is no way to say that Governor Palin didn’t hold her own against Senator Joe Biden. Even the Washington Post found it hard to criticize her performance in the debate; though they did manage to have the style department make derogatory comments about her clothing. I don’t think that Senator Biden did poorly, in fact he did quite well but he was supposed to do quite well, he’s been making political speeches and performing public debates for 35 years! Even a stupid fat hobbit could become proficient at something if he did it for 35 years.

I did love the way that Governor Palin would not allow Senator Biden to dictate what she was going to speak about in her rebuttals. If he even suggested that she hadn’t answered a question, she would purposely change the subject so that he knew he was not going to yank her chain. In fact the only time I think she slipped up was when Senator Biden stated that John McCain had voted against the same military funding bill that Senator Osama oops, Obama did. Her point, as I understood it, was that Senator Obama promised to support the bill and then changed his mind and did not. The question was not who voted for the bill, it was who flip-flopped on voting for the bill and that was Barack Obama.

I will say that some of the “Joe America” stuff (from both candidates) started getting to me after a while. I really don’t care if you identify with me or not, I’m good just knowing that you understand the current plight of working-class America and that you plan to do something about it.

I thought the most interesting comment of the night was when Senator Biden told Governor Palin that Osama bin Laden is hiding in the mountains of Afghanistan. This is the second or third time he’s mentioned this lately and he certainly made it sound like he’d just gotten back from a two week vacation at Osama’s secret retreat. Those are the kinds of statements that really irk me; a Senator from Delaware knows exactly where bin Laden is but nobody in the US Military does (or are they choosing not to kill him)? Last I heard, he was still ‘Undesirable #1′ and President Bush would love to mount his ghutrah on his wall in Crawford, TX. Maybe Senator Biden could march on in to Afghanistan and take care of business for us seeing as how he’s so knowledgeable about his whereabouts.

Oh well, I guess I better stop before I give away any hints as to who I’m voting for this year. I hope you all have a blessed day.
